Saturday, November 8, 2014, the Rippey United Methodist Church prepared to feed the Central Football boys as they returned from their game with Buena Vista.  This has been a tradition, started in 1985 by Velda DeMoss, when her son, Marc, played football for Central.  Velda loved her football boys, and this was a long road trip for them, and she felt Rippey was a half-way stop for them to get some good home cooking!

The football team arrived to a large salad bar, homemade pies, and a main course of chicken breasts, pork loin, mash potatoes and grave, sweet corn, dinner roll and a gallon of milk on each table.  They were served family style by a strong group from the church.  In 1 ½ hours, all 88 members were fed, enjoyed a display of Central College memorabilia from Rippey Alumni and departed after giving their team chant, led by Schyler Bardole, a team member.  We had a little baggie of Greene County items, donated by Peoples Trust and Savings Bank, and Midland Power, as well as an item with Rippey Savings Bank on it, for each member to have as a reminder of their Rippey visit.

It is an event enjoyed by the Central Football team and the Rippey Methodist Church!  It is a tradition we will always continue with our angel, Velda DeMoss’s blessing.

Others who came to enjoy the meal, which was started those many years by Velda DeMoss, were Marc and Shannon DeMoss, of Rockwell City, Beth DeMoss of Jefferson, Shawn, and Lori DeMoss, of Rippey, and Linda Hampton, Sierra and Sophia of Chandler, AZ.
