Friends of Rippey
Who are the friends of Rippey? Any one who is interested in the town and making it a better place to live! This group had their first meeting April 22, 2001, with a few interested people. Since then we have added many people that have an interest in our little town and have started fund raisers and activities for the town and community!
Friends of Rippey hosts breakfast and tour of former Masonic building that is to be renovated to accomodate the Rippey Public Library.

Work has begun! The funds received for the Rippey Library has been adequate to begin remodeling of the former Masonic Lodge Building given to the City of Rippey October 10, 2010.
The Rippey Library recently received $500 frm the Central Iowa Library Service Area for the purchase of a CD disc holder.
Some books have already been moved to the new library site but starting at 3 pm on Friday, July 1 an effort will be made to move more books.
Movin' right along! The Rippey Library is in transition and is up and running!! There is still lots to do, but come on in and utilize your library! Volunteers are always appreciated. There's always something to do.
Midland Power Cooperative recently presented the Friends of Rippey President, Velda DeMoss a $500 donation for the expansion of the Rippey Community Room.
September 2011 Rippey Community Room Update: Alliant Energy recently donates $2,000 to the Rippey Community Room project.
The Rippey Library is in our new space! What a wonderful place for the Rippey community! Fundraising still going on for expansion of the community room.
The KCCI Main Street project awarded the Friends of Rippey a check for $3,000 to be used to build a pergola as part of the re-New Rippey activities. The pergola will be built after the demolition of the buildings on Main Street and is being built to honor and recognize past veterans from the Rippey area.
The Vision Iowa Board awarded the Friends of Rippey the first Community Attraction and Tourism Grant (CAT) to help finish the demolition and expansion of the community room, west of the newly remodeled library.
Black Hills Energy made a pledge of $2500 last year to the Friends of Rippey project, remodeling the library and enlarging the community room. This payment completes their pledge.
Several volunteers gathered at the Rippey Library grounds on Saturday, May 5, 2012, to plant six bridal wreath shrubs as a memorial for the late Jean McElheney. The plants were given by her daughters, Phyllis, Karilyn, and Marilyn.
Rippey Cemetery Walk at 4:30 on Saturday, June 2, 2012, where six "actors" will portray the lives of selected early settlers of the Rippey. A $10.00 charge will cover the supper at the Rippey UMC at six. Proceeds will go to the Friends Of Rippey to help furnish the kitchen of the community room when that project is completed! All donations to this project are welcome, even if you can't attend any of the fundraisers that will be needed over the next few months.
The community room expansion has begun. The rafters were being raised on March 28, 2013. The hope is it will be completed by the end of May, 2013. Additional funds for this project are always welcome. There will be a new kitchen to furnish!!!
The Friends of Rippey will be hosting an open house of the facility on Sunday, November 3rd from 3-5:00 P.M. Persons and businesses who contributed to the project, along with members of the Greene County Board of Supervisors, the Rippey Mayor, and Rippey City Council members, current and former Rippey Library trustees, and the current as well as former librarians are invited to attend this celebration.
Area farmer, Janice Johnston, directs funds to Friends of Rippey from America's Farmers Grow Communities donation that supports local organizations.
Friends of Rippey accepted the gift of the personal piano of her late husband, Carson Griffith, a long-time East Greene Vocal Music Teacher.
