Rippey Library Board Members, 1944 - 1979, Wilmuth Peters and Lavina Fry, Retire

The Rippey Library honored Wilmuth Peters and Lavina Fry, charter members of the Rippey Library Board of Trustees, who served their last terms on June 30, 1979.

The trustees of the Rippey public library sponsored a tea in the library community room Saturday afternoon, Aug. 11, to honor Mrs Wilmuth Peters and Mrs Lavina Fry, who recently retired from the library board. Around 70 people registered during the afternoon and visited with the two women about the growth of the library from a few small shelves of books in the grocery store to its present size. Mrs Cleone Killam presented each woman with a charm, indicating 35 years of service as a trustee, and thanked them for their work over the years. The present trustees are Mrs Killam, Mrs Miriam High, Mrs Dorothy Scharingson, Mrs Phyllis Bardole, Mrs Dee Ann Thompson, Mrs Mary Von Behren and Mrs Darwin Grow. Mrs Helen Rice is the librarian and Mrs Margaret Wallace is her assistant. Mrs Mary Weaver, a friend of the library, had charge of the tea, and was assisted by Mrs Margaret Dorris, Mrs Helen Thompson, Mrs Bernice Cain and Mrs Dorothy Grow. The cookies were furnished by the trustees and the Amitie Club, and the colorful poster was made by Mrs Lori Gannon. Mrs Peters and Mrs Fry were given corsages when they represented the library that morning in the Rippey Fun Day that morning in the Rippey Fun Day parade.

Wilmuth Peters resigned from the Rippey Library Board in June, 1979 after  serving in this capacity for 35 years.  She was appointed to the board when the library was formally created by ordinance in June, 1944.    Wilmuth Peters    Lavina Fry was one of the first board members appointed to the Rippey Library in 1944.  She resigned in June, 1979 after serving 35 years.  Lavina Fry
