A summary of what's happening at the library so far, in June.

Library News June 10, 2011
Best way to cool off in Rippey--come to the library! Brenda Roberts has some really cool ideas for the kids for Summer Reading! This week has been all about Africa with games, contests, and movies. Today she dressed in an authentic African dress and showed a movie about the progression of African drummers to modern time. The kids all had fun making and playing with their own mancala game and then enjoyed a snack of animal crackers and lemonade. Friday will be movie time with popcorn and juice. Next week everyone will check their passport for Australia--don’t miss it “mate”.
On June 14th the library will show the movie, The War Memorials, in honor of flag day. The movie starts at 2:00 and last an hour. There will be popcorn and drinks for all who attend. What a great (and cool) way to spend an afternoon and show our appreciation for the soldiers who gave their lives for our country. This educational movie is made available in the public libraries of Greene County, Iowa with the generous support of a 2010 Greene County Community Foundation Grant and the Greene County Board of Supervisors.
Rippey has had several new books donated as memorials; Jane Auel’s latest addition to the Earth’s Children series, “The Land of Painted Caves“; an autographed copy of “Where Did All The Cowboys Go” by Joe Millard (which will be the book discussion book for Rippey in August); and three books in The Mortal Instruments series (City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass)by Cassandra Clare for the teen set.
