Rippey's Festival Friday evening and Saturday was well attended not only by local people but by many from neighboring places. The ball game Friday evening between Churdan and Rippey opened the event which resulted in a victory for the visiting team.

The teen-age hop at the rink drew a large crowd of young people for the evening The Davidson United Shows were on the grounds and included a large number of rides, shows and other concessions

The parade opened the second day’s activities at 10:30 and was exceptionally good. Leading the parade were the Legion Boys followed by the colors carried on horseback by Mr and Mrs Glen Grow. The Rippey High School marching band provided music and the long parade included school and business floats also from clubs and organizations, decorated bicycles and pets. More than 75 horses were used in the parade with riders and on vehicles, of western type, which was the theme for the parade.

Eight candidates for the queen, chosen by various organizations, each riding in a convertible, was a very attractive and interesting part and out of town judges selected the winner, which was announced at the evening program. Miss Barbara Overman was crowned queen and presented with a large arm bouquet of red roses. Her attendants were the runners-up, Miss Judith Groves and Miss Sharon Bardole.

The free acts were presented by the Rollers from Harlan with square dancing on roller skates and other stunts which was very entertaining. They also presented two little girls as soloists which also received much applause. This hour long show provided fine entertainment for the evening.

The horse show which was held in the afternoon Saturday was one of the best held in this area according to people of various saddle clubs. More than 75 horses were entered for the show which was held at the ball park at 1:30. Altogether it was a well-planned program and the weather was ideal for the event.
