Services for Children

We offer a wide variety of books for children of all ages ranging from board books to beginner readers. We also have many toys and puzzles for children to use in the library or check out for 1 week at a time. We have added STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) toys, as well!

Look out for information about our summer and winter reading programs! Check out our calendar and stay connected with us on Facebook.

Storytime

We have Storytime on Tuesdays at 4 pm. Families with children of all ages are welcome at Storytime. Storytime is targeted at younger children. We read two books, sing songs or rhymes, and participate in a craft and/or activity. This is a great way for children to be engaged with their library and get to know other children.

Kid & Teen Hang

On alternating Thursdays (Wednesdays, starting in June), bring your friends and siblings to the library for some "hang" time. The library will offer games and activities which may include a craft or a STEM activity. We also have popcorn at Kid & Teen hang! This is a time for kids and teens of all ages to have a safe place to hang out after school, learn something new, or create something awesome.

Summer Reading

Our library is hosting Summer Reading for library patrons of all ages in June and July. To participate in Summer Reading, fill out reading tickets to record the days during which you read. When a reading ticket is filled up, you can submit it into a prize drawing at the library. You can also fill out special tickets for participating in various library events. Stop in the library to get your reading tickets and start participating! Children and teens may pick out a mini prize just for completing reading tickets. There will be one prize drawing held for June, and one for July. Make sure to turn in your tickets by June 30 and July 31!

Author Zooms in June

In June, join our library for a series of Zoom meetings with authors as part of the state's All Iowa Reads program. This is a unique opportunity for the state to read books and discuss altogether. Adults are welcome to attend any author Zoom meetings, regardless of the target audience of the books. Children would enjoy the Zoom meeting with Kate Messner on June 9. Contact the library for more information!

  • Tuesday, June 9, 1:30-2:30 pm - Zoom with Kate Messner, author of The Trouble With Heroes (upper elementary/tween book)
  • Tuesday, June 16, 6:30-7:30 pm - Zoom with Allen Eskens, author of The Quiet Librarian (adult book)
